CAPS is looking for student volunteers for annual Evening for Education event

The Committee for Atascadero Public Schools (CAPS) is looking for student volunteers from Atascadero High to help at their annual live and silent auction with sponsorships, registration, and other programs.

CAPS is a volunteer-run organization made up of parents, teachers, retired teachers, and community members that partner with the nonprofit organization Atascadero Greyhound Foundation. All of CAPS’s proceeds go straight to Atascadero Unified School District through large grants to help support classroom activities and educational programs. According to CAPS, last year they were able to grant $58,000 with the help of sponsors and generous donors. Also, over the last twelve years, CAPS has been able to donate over $800,000 to schools and teachers. In order to receive money from CAPS, teachers submit grant applications asking for funding for specific school supplies or expenses needed in their classrooms or for their proposed projects. Local businesses can donate to CAPS and receive a title of either a Platinum, Gold, Copper, or Silver sponsor.

The CAPS 2020 committee meeting took place on Feb. 24 at which they discussed the plans for their upcoming Evening for Education event. Every year, CAPS holds the Evening for Education dinner and live auction, where community members purchase tickets to help raise money for schools.

CAPS has given AHS grants for field trips, musical instruments, Marching Band uniforms, photo book projects, the Battle of the Books, iPads, a pottery wheel, science equipment, and much more. If any students at AHS are interested in volunteering, they can contact CAPS organizer Haley Mattson at (805) 703-3164.
