The juniors beat the senior boys 3-2 in the annual Jump Serve Joe volleyball game on March 8 in the AHS gym to celebrate National Athletic Training Month. There were five sets played, and the overall winner was the team who won the most sets. The first four volleyball sets are over when one team reaches a score of 25. The fifth set finishes when a team reaches 15.

Girl volleyball players from AHS served as the coaching staff for the boys, as they have much more experience competing in volleyball. The seniors players were Stephen Reyes, Lance Giron, Cullen Cooper, Lukas Holder, Cade VanAllen, Kyle Spurgeon, Triston Guillory, Scott Morgan, Wyatt McKenzie, Chance Viale, Ben Bietz, Seth Fingerson, Wyatt Marshall, Carson Eads, and Dante Donati.

The junior team consisted of Gabriel Sandoval, Noah Meade, Seth Robasciotti, Taylor Hedger, Nathan Hontz, Blake Power, Wyatt Hasch, Frankie Fernandez, Seth Camp, Logan Jones, Luke Olson, Israel Reyna, Westley Cooper, and Cole Spurgeon.

The first set ended with the score of 25-12, juniors. The set was highlighted by a series of great plays by the junior team. Introduction to Sports Medicine teacher Ms. Boots and FRAT (first responding athletic training) students threw shirts and wristbands to the crowd as a thank you for coming to the event.

The second set was a score of 25-19 with the juniors winning again. By the third set, seniors took the win with a score of 25-22. The seniors would have to make sure to not let juniors have another win. At halftime the audience watched a video that advertised the Introduction to Sports Medicine class at AHS to students in the audience.

The fourth set was a frenzy of turnovers. The score ended at 25-15, with seniors in the lead. The fifth set was fast but tense, the crowd holding their breaths to see who would take the overall title. The juniors eventually won with a score of 15-6.

After the event, Ms. Boots said, “Being able to celebrate National Athletic Training Month with everyone the past three years has been super special, and I hope it's a tradition that continues for many years to come!” She also expressed her appreciation for her students, saying, “Thanks to the amazing FRAT students this year, I actually got to sit back, watch, and enjoy most of the event. It is so rewarding having a crew that runs so seamlessly together. Cheers to making things seem effortless this year. Thank you so much to all the students and staff that participated and made jump Serve Joe possible.” Ashlee Rodgers, who is Ms. Boots’s assistant, also thanked the people that helped make the event possible.

The 2019 Jump Serve Joe game entertained the audience and provided students with more information about Sports Medicine.
