This year’s Sadie Hawkins dance was held on Saturday, Nov 3. in the AHS gym from 7:30 to 10 pm. The AHS cheerleaders organized and ran the event as a fundraiser. This year’s theme was “Out of This World” with a focus on space travel.

The cheerleaders decorated the gym with UV lights and glow-in-the-dark materials. Attendees wore glow-in-the-dark skirts and shirts. There were also plenty of treats offered, such as pretzels, licorice, and various other candies.

Students had various responses to the dance. Freshman Sydney Culp said, “I thought it was really fun, I loved the ultraviolet lights. It surprised me at first, very interesting to see everything glowing. Though, I wish they could have had games or a photobooth for Sadies.” However, freshman Mackenna Langford wasn’t as positive about her experience. She said, “It was very boring. There weren’t many people and the music wasn’t that good. I don’t think there was as much excitement about it as Homecoming.”

According to freshman Amelia Armet, the dance could be improved by encouraging students to ask each other to the dance. “I honestly loved the theme; I thought it was a great idea and was fun to get in the spirit of being in space. Rori Montgomery said, “I had fun because I went with a group of friends and had a awesome time. The best part was probably getting ready with all my friends!”
