On Oct. 11 Ms. Proulx, the Wellness Center director, announced the annual calendar art contest winners: Student artwork was chosen for the cover and for each calendar month as follows: Cover -- Emily Di Muro; January-- Daniel Wallace; February -- Lilly Ludwick; March -- Ryelin Pickard; April -- Jearon Gilbert; May -- Elizabeth Valence; June -- Taryn Clark; July -- Sean Nunez; August -- Sean Reagan; September -- Sydney Culp; October -- Gracie Shively; November -- Lily Moore; and lastly December -- Shelby Garcia.
The main theme for the calendar is “Identity.” Elizabeth Valence, the winning artist for May focused her artwork on transgenders. She said, “I thought I would give a spotlight to transgenders, for they have to transition to who they desire to be.” The Wellness Center calendar is a project designed to support students’ strengths and build resilience; Wellness Center groups are formed based on student needs and interests. The Wellness Center is about caring for students, and the calendar reflects the importance of supporting others in the community.
Participating to this event can be fun. Sean Reagan said, “This event was very fun as it was interesting to draw about identity.” In return the Wellness Center calendar art helps to spread awareness about the Wellness Center throughout the community, as well as draw attention to a variety of issues that affect student well being. Valence said, “I am happy to help out with the school calendar and for the community I both live in and support.”
The calendars featuring the student artwork go on sale for $15 each at the ASB window of the Athletic Office beginning Nov. 12. The project helps fund Wellness Center activities.
