Improv team debuts Times for Tunes

At the beginning of the year, drama teacher Ms.Volpa and her students, including many from the Improv team, started working on brief shows during Study Hall in the Black Box Theatre. They practice acting and singing in preparation for their shows. The first official Improv Show was held on August 28, but on Thursday, Oct. 11, the Improv team hosted a show during Study Hall so their fellow AHS students could be entertained by all their hard work.

First, some students performed any song they wanted. Some were solos, and others were duets. The songs they performed were the originals, not mashups. The next performance was a game called “Doo Rap,” a rhyming rhythm rap game where the Improv team gets a suggestion from the audience for a one syllable name. They then rhymed and rapped a story about that one syllable. For example, the audience would say “Mary,” and the team would have to then sing and rap a story about that.

During the next game, called “Sounds Like a Song,” the audience picked a topic for two teams. Then at any time during the scene, the host (Ms.Volpa) would say “sounds like a song,” and the students would have to turn the last word they said into a song.

The final game the Improv team performed was “Sing Psychiatrist.” Here the players pretended to visit the psychiatrist, then the advice was sung back to them.

Ms. Volpa is trying to get as many students as possible to get involved with the Improv team, which has a lot of fun while providing hilarious entertainment. The upcoming Improv shows are as follows:
